ATS 2500 GT

ATS formed not long after a group of high-level engineers and executives left Ferrari en masse in the fall of 1961. Their road car appeared less than two years later as the 150-mph 2500 GT. This mid-engine marvel was more advanced than any street machine at the time, but despite all its promise, ATS didn’t last another two years. This makes finding any ATS a real chore—and especially in the early 1980s when I took this photo of chassis # 2006 outside of Lancaster in central California.
